Raising Chickens

Bossy fussing at me for painting the coop and looking at her eggs.
Pierre on patrol

Pierre is our Salmon Faverolle rooster. We love him. I swore I would not get attached to any working animal as much as I love this rooster , but here we are. We got him in 2013 and he has been doing an amazing job keeping our flock safe ever since. He is not aggressive and quiet for a rooster. He has fought off two hawks and several night time attacks involving a possum and a huge raccoon.

Pierre has been a constant, but the hens are replaced every two years for optimal egg laying. We have around 20 hens at any given time and sell the excess eggs. Check out Rob’s builds below for the perfect chicken coop and meat chicken tractor.

Rob’s Chicken builds

The ultimate chicken coop. Plans will be posted soon

All finished except the final coat of paint.
Almost finished- The handle and closing peg are not attached yet.

The chickens were happy to get back into a real coop with more room. They have been living in the old brooder for the past two months.

Meat chicken Tractor Build:

After looking at many designs online we came up with this design. I think it is going to be great for the new Royal Meat chickens from Moyer’s Hachery that are almost ready to graduate out doors.

Chicken nuggets are getting big on the grass.
